It’s a beautiful time to talk about the new single Singnature worked on with L-Dafar and Treasure.
Just like any love song has a story, this one gives the feeling of a sombre spouse trying to understand what’s wrong with a relationship he has worked to hold, going into the trash like that.
“Kilode” translates from Yoruba into English as Why. This question brings so many questions to mind. Like the lines that state “shebi iwo lo so wipe o ma bami lo sile, tell me baby kilode”. After Babe has promised to stay so much with this young Man, the promise is broken. Definitely He’s right to ask why.
This reminds us of the everyday love story, two young lovers fall head over heels for each other, and the relationship sails smoothly, with all the memories gathered over time, only for one person to start drifting probably because they have gotten bored and need new adventures.
“You’ve torn my heart to bits ” this lover who technically is the guy is pained, and it’s not so common to find men who cry or hurt so much after a breakup. This can only translate to the fact that this young guy loves that girl alone.
Sadly this love tale was to last forever, but Babe wants better or probably has distractions because of course she’s a pretty one, she’s obviously still in the market. This explains the line “shebi na story wey suppose be happily ever after you don turn to once upon a time”.
I love the play on words used, simple yet elegant language portrays the mind and thoughts of this beautiful piece. I also love the infusion of the indigenous Yoruba language into it. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I don’t think there would have been a better culture mix for this beautiful work of art.
On the whole, although the story line is beautifully told, the timing was way too short. I would have expected a 5minutes track at least, as opposed to the original 3minutes 18seconds song. But, overall, amazing storyline, amazing use of pun and great story telling employed in this body.
If you haven’t listened to this track yet, you’re definitely snoozing. You should listen and join the conversation with millions of Nigerians talking about it at the moment.
